the Cost of Towing Services

Our car broke down on our way back to Phoenix from Tucson and about 14 miles south of the metropolitan area. We got the number for a towing company and they came out within 45 minutes. It took that long because I requested a flat bed truck instead of having the car towed that distance on the back two wheels. There was a $20 additional fee for the flat truck and the other $120 was based on the distance from our location to the automotive shop that we directed them to, plus tax that is included in that total.

Towing is usually not an enjoyable experience, but other than the long wait and the frustration of being stuck, the process was pretty simple and smooth. The driver was friendly and sympathized with us and seemed careful with our car. He took a quick look at the engine even though he isn't supposed to try to fix the car, but he didn't see any obvious problem. He drove directly to the auto shop and didn't try to run up the mileage charge. I was satisfied with the service and the price was fair for the tow.

Take care of your car and if you need a tow try to get a flatbed truck so that you won't cause further damage to your car. Also get an estimate of the cost before you hire the towing company.
