Description of service
I chose to sign up for a free email with a company based in California.
The sign up process was fairly easy. They only asked for my First and Last name, the email address that I want to be used, a password, my birthday, a security question and answer, and a CAPTCHA to avoid automated signups.
Review of Service
Since the service is free, users have some contextual advertisement while reading or creating emails, which by the way are unobtrusive. But unlike other free email providers, they don't add any sort of message advertisement at the bottom of the emails you send and/or receive. Also, since the advertisements shown are text based, this is very light or does not consume more bandwidth compared with the ones that show graphical ads.
As of now, the email storage goes at a whopping 6538 MB and increasing daily. I really don't have to delete any messages because of the size.
The maximum outgoing email size is 20 MB (which is very big considering the service is free).
The web-based interface is coded in AJAX allowing a fast retreival of emails.
But users can also opt to check their email through an email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook Express. This feature is commonly non-existent in other free email providers.
You can also check your email with them using a mobile phone or mobile browser. Pretty cool for a free email.
Also, a very big issue in email is spam protection. They have a very great spam protection which captures almost all unsolicited emails.
Tips
This is a very great email provider! It is even better overall compared with other fee-based ones.
The downside with this email provider is that since they already have many subscribers, the email address name you want might already be taken.
Overall, I'm very happy and grateful for this free email provider.
