Description of service

The service was a free introductory week at a local martial arts school. The school also offers lessons in Brazilian Jujitsu. The regular membership fee is $50/month for three group classes/week or $100/month for unlimited group classes/week. Individual instruction is available, prices vary depending on the instructor. Uniforms were also available for sale.

Review of Service

As part of his new year's resolutions, my son decided he wanted to learn capoeira. I'll save the suspense and say up front it didn't stick. He found lifting weights and playing video games more satisfying.

The school was small, pretty clean, and not especially busy. Most of the instructors were friendly, though one seemed to be something of a jerk. The students were competent, but the experienced ones didn't seem to help out as much as I've seen in other martial arts schools.

Tips

Find a school that lets you try before you buy and doesn't use high pressure sales tactics to get you to sign a contract, or even put money down, before you spend time in a class with an instructor. You will want to make sure you can learn from the instructor and that you enjoy the instruction.
