Description of service
When we built our new home, it came with a full security system installed (valued at $1000.00 and part of our mortgage actually [LESSON: read the fine print]). This system included the following: Keypad in two rooms, Door and Window Sensors, Motion Detector, Interior Siren, Master Control Panel, Brink's Yard Sign and Window Decals for all windows, Monitored Heat and Smoke Detector, and all the wiring needed for all of this to work. It did not include activation of the system nor any monitoring of the system. That was up to us to purchase and was an extra $155.00 plus $35.00 a month with a three year contract.
Review of Service
After we purchased our home, a sales person came to our house per our request. They showed us how the system works, how all the wiring was connected, how to turn the system on and off, and tested the siren. They informed us that we would need to contact the local police department, as they require notification of any activated security systems. We were then given paperwork that described our protection for theft, fire, panic, medical and paid for the first month of our 3 year contract with them.
Tips
First, we did not know we were PAYING for the complete installation of the system. We thought that was part of the price of the house but it was actually an option that you pay for even if you do not want it, as our builder had a contract with this company. We were fine with this, but would tell others that are not fine with this to argue the point if they feel they need/want to. I would also be sure to fully understand how the system works and listen to the salesperson to avoid problems with law enforcement. Our sales person told us horror stories of people getting bills from the police for false alarms and such. Just know what you are getting into so that you are safe and smart.
