the Price of Hospice Care

This price included a private inpatient room with private bathroom, full time room and board including three meals a day, and 24 hour nursing as needed. Nursing service included aid with personal hygiene and moving around room, as well as oral and IV medication administration. Doctors visits and services were not included.

The aides and nursing were professional and courteous, and very reliable. The room and bathroom were new and well maintained. Family member who was in hospice was very happy with service. Meals provided were tasty. When visitors came, staff helped make them feel comfortable. Site was secure.

It is important that a person know what level of medical care they would like during hospice care. The presence and availability of a doctor was not guaranteed at this hospice, so if the person requiring hospice care needs frequent visits to a doctor, this is not provided. It is also important that the food and care provided is up to expectations. Visit during meal time to observe how the aides interact with residents. Finally make sure that the cost is not adjusted on an a la carte basis. If the resident requires more care as health declines, they should not have to pay more for it.
