Cost of incorporation
After my husband passed away, I opened a small retail store. I knew the dangers of not incorporating so I called the attorney that did the legal work for my husband's estate.
Review of Service
He drew up the paperwork and within a week he was ready to have me sign the papers. He filed the papers with the state and I think the whole process took about 90 days, I'm not sure.
I didn't have any questions at the time, but as time progressed and I was trying to do my own bookkeeping and tax forms, I had some questions about the incorporation. I called him with my questions and he sent me a bill for $97.00 for a consultation fee !! As it turned out, I should have just called the IRS with my questions and that would have been free !!!
Tips
Try to have all your questions ready when you go to see the attorney. If yours is like mine, every time you talk to him on the phone, he'll send you a bill !!! Or, at least, learn from my experience and ask upfront what his consultation fee is if you have to call later with any questions.
Call around and get "quotes" on what attorneys charge based on what you need.
