Description of service
We spent $12,000 for one semester of a private high school for my son. This price included the costs of uniforms and all books. There was an additional charge for parking passes but my son did not drive so we didn't utilize this.
Review of Service
This was an awful experience. Actually, the school wasn't terrible, it just wasn't worth the money at all. The class sizes were small, which is what we were looking for. However, with small class sizes I'd also assumed they'd be able to do a good job filling classes with people of similar skill levels. This was one of the main reasons we gave private school a shot - we felt that my son was being held back by the teachers at his public school having to focus too much time on students who weren't performing to their ability. When we took him out and put him in a private school with small class sizes we thought he'd get more personal attention. Well, it turned out that wasn't true. When we discussed our complaints with his counselor we were told that the school had a policy of giving a 'well-rounded education'. Meaning that they felt the kids excelled more when challenged to interact with people of different skill levels. Therefore, our son was again the smartest kid in his classes and was not given as much attention as the poorer performing students. We took him out and enrolled him in a home school program after one semester.
Tips
Make sure you ask what the goals of the school are. If they don't match up with what your goals are for your child, look elsewhere. It's not worth it.
