Description of service
I sent my four year old to a public preschool in Oakland, California. It was free because it was at a public school which is low income so I think all the kids can go to preschool for free. Preschool was half day, from about nine inthe morning to about noon. The kids also got lunch right before they left. Most of what they did was play at school but they also learned how to deal with other kids, how to wait for things, and how to work together.
Review of Service
I liked the teachers a lot. Some of them had been there for so long that they remembered my older children. Some of them even remembered other parents from when those parents were little kids at the preschool. And you know they don't get paid much so they must be doing this out of love for the kids. The kids didn't learn how to read or anything but that wasn't really the goal of the school.
Tips
Check your community for free preschool. The preschools where you have to pay are not only obviously more expensive but sometimes the waiting lists are years long. Who thinks about preschool the minute their child is born? That's just silly.
