Description of service
Chain replacement and a cleaning of the front and rear sprockets of rust, after being left in a garage over the winter.
Review of Service
To my surprise, I discovered my chain had seized completely over the winter, even though I had my bicycle in the garage. I had previously cleaned it (to keep grease off of my pant leg), then oiled it with WD-40, but apparently that's not enough. It was completely seized and needed replacing. Probably the high relative humidity air that results when warm air from the house leaks into the garage. I took it in to a place I knew I could trust, and it took two days before I got a call saying I could come pick it up. Not too bad, but I'm sure they could have done it immediately. The chain itself was $17 so I can't complain about the price.
Tips
Do things yourself when you can, not because of the cost but because of the time, and - I happen to know where to go, and I knew this ahead of time so it's never been a problem for me, but - half the time they break something. I should have asked them to remove the chain while I waited instead. The sprocket also needed to be cleaned, though.
