The service was for installation and use of satellite TV, specifically HDTV reception. Service included installation of HDTV receivers, upgrading of the satellite dish, and instruction on use of the system including the remotes. This service was free under condition that the system is kept in used for at least 24 months. The cost incurred is the monthly fee which varies in accordance with the programming options desired.
Review of Service
The service man came to the house, did the necessary installation and instructed us on use of the system ( in this case it was a two TV system). The service was provided within 48 hours of our request which we felt was very good service indeed. We encountered a problem shortly after the service man left. He returned later in the day and fixed the problem at no charge. Later we had another minor problem, contacted the local retailer and they were able to help us but only after several phone calls, The expertise was not really there. One more problem (faulty remote) we resoved by calling the 1-800 number. They replaced the remote but I had to talk to three different psople and go through a series of tests before the problem was resolved. The process was semi-automated which sometimes is not the most efficent method. Basically we are satisfied with the service and regard the monthly fee as quite reasonable.
Tips
If you are having a satellite system installed make sure you understand the instructions for operation before the service person leaves. Tring to get an answer from the local retailer may or may not work depending on the expertise of who answers the phone. If calling a 1-800 HELP number be aware that you may have to deal with a menu system and run a test on your receiver before actually taking to a live person. This can be time consuming. The best advice is to try to understand how the system works the best you can before the service man leaves your home. Take Notes!
