the Price of Taxis

We often take a taxi from downtown to our house, which is only 3 miles but takes about 15 minutes as much of it is in town driving. The charge is usually around $10 and we often tip very well due to the excellent service. They charge a little bit extra per person, about $0.25 and then add the mileage on from there.

We have always had excellent experiences with our local taxi service. This is a small city and as a result we often have cab drivers that we have had in the past. They often remember us and like to joke with us about the fact. A call to the taxi company usually results in a ride within 20-30 minutes. When the taxi arrives outside, they call our cell phone to let us know they are waiting outside. There is no worry that they will leave without us as they have our names and are willing to wait several minutes. The drivers are always very friendly and willing to chat about any topic. They have also been very accomodating toward our needs. Several times we have asked them to take detours to pick up other people or even stop at local drive-thrus for a late night snack. Cheap and excellent service has led me to highly value the taxi service in our community.

Always call ahead and provide ample time for the arrival at your destination as there may be construction or other needed detours. I have also found that small cities tend to have better service than the larger cities.
