Description of service
Data recovery is something that can range in price quite a bit, but I guess the justification for paying is determined by how important the data is. $300 included the transfer of the data from my broken hard drive to a working hard drive. No clue how they do it, but thank you. then I had to purchase a new hard drive at $100 which was the absolute cheapest they had. And finally the data was transfered back to the new hard drive and worked as good as new. I even had a little bit more storage than I had with my old hard drive.
Review of Service
This was one of those services that you hate to have to pay for, but it was very successful and considering the situation I couldn't be happier. My one complaint was that this large chain tried to sell me a bunch of diagnostic stuff that I didn't need. We'll see if it bites me in the butt, but I saw no reason for it. This entire process took about 8 days, which put my computer out of service, but I luckily have a laptop so I could fairly easily deal with the long wait. Ultimately it was a bad situation with a good experience and outcome.
Tips
This is a vulnerable situation and what you are willing to pay is basically determined by how important the lost information is. So before you throw down $300 think long and hard about if it's worth it. Everywhere is going to be expensive, that's just how computer repairs go.
