Description of service
I paid $300 to attend 15 sessions to learn to speak Spanish before my trip to Mexico. I believe at the time I was getting a good deal. There were 14 other students in my class ranging from 15 or 16 to their 50's. The class was taught at the instructors home in her dining room. I did not believe we had enough materials nor time to sufficiently learn the language. We had to bring our own writing materials and paper to class everyday, and the classes were at a very inconvenient time (9 PM on Wednesdays). I took my trip and did not even have a basic grasp of the language which felt like a waste of $300 bucks and 15 weeks of Wednesdays. We didn't even receive work to be done at home, so we did not spend enough time learning.
Review of Service
I was not happy with the quality. My teacher, although she was a native speaker and knew the language very, very well, was not a good instructor. This may have been her first time giving lessons, and she had no set technique to teach us this tricky language. We did not receive anything to help us learn, no workbooks or work to do away from her home, which was a big disappointment. I felt as if I got ripped off, and I bet my 14 classmates do too. She came away with $4500 and we came away will very little having been learned.
Tips
-Check out your teacher beforehand. I simply heard about her from word of mouth and tried her out.
-Check to see if she's qualified to teach.
-Request a material list or similar before you pay.
-Be sure your instructors knows what he/she is doing.
-Be ready to learn and take lots of notes.
-Have some fun learning, because i did not.
