Description of service
I recently hired a tutor for my 12 year old son. In addition to help with all his subjects, I also hired the tutor to help with teaching my son study and test taking skills and to provide supervised homework help. I paid the tutor 20/hr for all this. On average, the tutor met with my son twice a week, for two hour sessions. I did pay the tutor an extra $10 for helping my son with a project on short notice.
Review of Service
My tutor experience was very successful. My son went from B's and C's to all A's. I also noticed that his confidence improved. Also, he stopped complaining about his schoolwork once he had the tutor's help. The tutor I hired really seemed to care about my son's academic performance and was very devoted to working with him.
Tips
In hiring a tutor, always look for someone with experience working as a private tutor. Rather than hiring a retired teacher, I hired a college student at an Ivy League university as, in my opinion, this is a sign of more recent and perhaps greater academic success and knowledge about successful studying. It is also beneficial to look for someone who can tutor in many subjects as you never know if your child will encounter difficulties in other subjects as his or her academic career progresses.
