Description of service
The cost covered the diagnosis and replacement of a faulty power supply including parts ($50) and one hour's labor ($50).
As a full-service computer shop they offer everything from software installation to custom built computers. Minimum 1 hour labor charge for non-standard services (including diagnosing/repairing broken computers).
Review of Service
When my computer died and wouldn't turn on last year, I feared the worst. Lost data, expensive hardware needing to be replaced. But I needed my computer, so I took it to a repair shop. The $50 labor charge covered the diagnosis and when they showed me it was the power supply, they offered to replace it without adding to the labor charge (the price for the power supply, I later checked, was cheaper than at a popular local computer parts retailer). Maybe it's just because it was so much less than I feared, but I'm happy with the results. No problems since.
Tips
Getting a computer repaired is a bit weird. A lot of people know how to do it themselves, but I hesitate to ask friends to do this stuff, because if they can't fix the problem, or (god forbid) make it worse, it could possibly strain our friendship.
