Description of service
Continuation of health coverage from a self-funded government agency. Includes health care, with a $300 or $500 deductible, depending on whether your doctor is in the network or not. There are no co-pays. Price is the same regardless of number of dependants.
Review of Service
Great idea that would probably work well for a family, however a single person carrying the expense of this Cobra coverage is absolutely ridiculous! That is half of my take-home salary for the month. One of the major problems in this country now is the fact not that people can't get health coverage, it is that they cannot afford it! As I mentioned, this is a great plan for a family, with no limits on the number of dependants.
Tips
If you plan on leaving a position with health coverage, you may want to research alternatives. You can buy a policy for cheaper than $200/ month if you are in relatively good health. Another option could be temporary health insurance purchased outside the COBRA network. And finally, if all else fails you could look amongst your community for free clinics or ones based on your income. However, I would not recommend dropping coverage totally because the next insurance company will give you grief over not being covered.
