Description of service
$760 to continue full insurance coverage that was once covered by my employer (including health, vision, dental, and behavioral health).
Review of Service
Absolutely standard, cold, "official" style service. Be prepared to navigate through automated telephone systems and to have all of the pertinent dates and paperwork in front of you before calling.
Tips
This is a subject you really owe it to yourself to do some research before deciding whether to continue your insurance through COBRA or whether you can qualify for insurance on your own for a lower price elsewhere. For the older worker, or one with preexisting medical conditions that would disqualify you from obtaining your own health insurance coverage elsewhere, COBRA is your best option. However, I discovered I was able to qualify for just that portion I needed (the health insurance only) for a fraction of what it would have cost to continue my coverage through COBRA. Even vision and dental coverage can be purchased separately for a modest annual sum. Upon losing your job, start researching your health insurance options right away because you only have thirty days to decide whether to continue your employer's insurance through COBRA. If you can qualify for your own insurance coverage elsewhere, it takes time to set up the policy so the sooner you research your best option and make a decision the better. Finally, do not assume that because you have a preexisting condition that you will not qualify for private health insurance. You may have to pay a little bit extra per month, but research may show you it would make the difference between paying something like $250-$300 a month for private insurance as compared to $700+ for COBRA.
