Description of service
I had corrective surgery for strabismus (walleye/lazy eye) to both eyes. The procedure entails loosening or tightening the muscles around the eye by changing their length or position. By altering the pull of the muscles on the eye, the surgery allows the muscles to bring the eyes back into line with each other. The procedure requires general anesthesia. The total operation time was roughly an hour and forty five minutes. The breakdown was 985.00 per eye, 2250.00 for anesthesia and facility services, and the remaining balance for doctor fees.
Review of Service
I found the nurses and staff to be very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. Most of these surgeries are now performed in surgical centers, and that allows for more intimate and one on one care for the patient. I liked the additional privacy of the facility. Because of the new and innovative way that this procedure is done, the recovery time is reduced tremendously from 2 plus weeks to right at one week. The price of healthcare is expensive, and I feel given the facility and doctor options, the services rendered were really good for the total cost of the surgery.
Tips
I wish that I would have known that there is a significant period where you are incapacitated and unable to see, so arrangements that may need to be made such as cleaning services, or additional appointments, or even transportation will add additional costs to your recovery. The surgery is well worth it, and I would encourage someone to research their surgery location options before agreeing to the surgery. It makes a difference.
