Description of service
My daughter required lazy eye surgery, also called amblyopia. This price included diagnosis, surgery, post-surgical follow up, and multiple follow up visits for about three months.
Review of Service
Our doctor was wonderful. The cost is quite reasonable when you realize this is someone's vision that we are trying to correct.
Our daughter's doctor was both an ophthalmologist and eye surgeon, providing excellent continuity of care.
Tips
No doctor does only lazy eye surgeries. However, if you require these services, find an ophthalmologist who is also an eye surgeon. Thus there is no confusing referrals, or the risk of lost information in the transfer of information between eye doctor and eye surgeon.
Do ask for all alternatives that can be tried before resorting to surgery. If a doctor makes the diagnosis and immediately refers to surgery (as compared to eye drops, eye patches, and glasses), run to a second opinion. And if the doctor jumps straight to the surgical option, make certain that you get a second opinion that is NOT from a doctor the first doctor recommends. (A second opinion from a doctor whose opinion you are unsure of will likely agree with the first doctor.) So seek out a neutral second opinion. Or even a third opinion.
If you need recommendations for a quality eye doctor, ask your doctor or your child's pediatrician for recommendations.
