Description of service
I paid $100 for a decorating consultation at a local home and hardware store. I had a general idea of what I wanted the room to look like but was at a loss as to what particular color to use or how to place the various furniture within the room. I was given paint color advice, advice on a project to creatively display pictures and a suggested furniture placement design. I was also given a list of supplies to buy in order to facilitate the designers advice.
Review of Service
I don't think it was worth the cost associated with it. I initially thought it was a pretty cheap price for decorating advice. However, I didn't feel it was very personalized to me. I felt that the 'creative photo display' was suggested only to get me to buy more of their products to do the project. The paint selection was a perfect match for part of the bedspread I used in the room but I felt that if I'd just taken an hour or two to go through paint samples I could have found a match myself.
Tips
If you decide to get some design advice from a professional find out exactly what they will be doing for you. Ask to see examples of typical work that they do so you can decide if it's worth the money.
