If your mechanic identifies a similar problem but believes it safe to continue operating your vehicle, make sure the situation is reevaluated each time you get an oil change. As the head gasket is difficult to replace and requires exposure of other difficult engine systems, if you engage a mechanic to complete a head gasket system repair, consider replacing other parts, which are difficult to access normally but will be exposed while working on the head gasket (ask your mechanic to examine potentially worn parts they may be able to access while working on the head gasket).
