Description of service
After hitting something while driving, the oil pan, drain, and related metal was bent, damaged, and leaking oil. The car was originally taken in due to the burning smell caused by the oil leak.
The services involved were removal of the oil pan, drain, and related structural attachments. The surrounding chassis was cleaned of oil that had leaked, carbonized, and begun to smoke. Then new metal parts were installed. An oil change was done, since much of the car oil had been lost.
Review of Service
The quality of service was acceptable. The work took two days, while it would have only been one day if they had the parts on hand.
The cost was roughly $150 for parts and $200 for several hours of labor.
The parts were used or otherwise salvaged, which reduced the cost by about $50.
Tips
Get the catalytic converter checked when repairs like this are done. If there was damage to the underside of your car, that part will likely require replacement as well.
Get components from a junk yard on your own, where possible, to save on part costs. If not, do authorize used car parts.
If you are having parts replaced in the lubrication system, go ahead and get an oil change included in the work.
