I went to see a family lawyer for general type of things such as a will, power of attorney, and basically establish myself with a lawyer were I to require their services.

This family lawyer provides probate services, adoptions, civil actions and of course wills. This included Living Wills.

I was impressed with the service I got. I felt comfortable with the lawyer. I had come prepared with a will I had written up. The lawyer looked it over and felt it needed very little changes but as I was new to the state, it needed to be redone to comply with state laws. The office also provided estate planning. The lawyer took his time with me and did not rush thru the process. Some of my questions were personal in nature and he seemed to handle them with them with care. He was not judgemental but actually very understanding. He understood my concerns and answered them so I understood exactly what the different results would be.

When looking for a family lawyer, check up with the Bar association, the better business bureau and online resources. Ask friends for their input, but always go with your gut feelings. Try to make sure your appointments are given adequate time. Know what the costs for the initial appointment are before going.
