My husband is trying to adopt my son from a different relationship. The birth father says he wants something to do with my son yet didn't come around for 4 years. As soon as we got married he decided to come back and want to be in my son's life. We proceded with the termination of rights. This was in 2004 that it started. We went through the initial meeting with our lawyer then went to court. This cost about two thousand dollars. After the local court decided that my son's birth father's right would be terminated he had the right to appeal to a higher court. The paper went in and we didn't hear anything from our lawyer for about six or seven months. When we did hear from him he said we had to file again because the other lawyer missed his deadline and was given another shot to get the papers in. This cost us another 1500 in fees.

In two thousand seven we heard from our lawyer again saying we needed to pay another 1500 to go against another appeal. Finally in December of two thousand seven we heard that the higher court had gone with the termination of rights but he still could appeal again. Which once again will cost more money.

The service is ridiculios I think because we still have to go through the adoption process once the termination of rights is done. I can't believe it has taken this long and we never hear from our lawyer about updates on our case. I would think if your making that much money you could at least call once in a while.
