Review of Service
The service was okay, but not exceptional. The owner of the gym and the Jiu Jitsu coach was good, but wasn't the best available. The beginner classes were repetitive, and there were several people who didn't attend frequent practice sessions, and the trainer would spend a lot of time with those people trying to get them up to speed. I feel like I didn't learn a whole lot more than I knew already, and didn't get much of an opportunity to practice my grappling skills on people of my own skill level or better. The trainers, owners, and coaches were extremely nice, however, and had a lot of patience for beginners.
Tips
Do lots and lots of research. The school I went to wasn't the most expensive, but there was a reason why it cost less than the others. There are some better classes in the area for around the same price, or slightly more with people who have better reputations for producing better fighters. There are a lot of Jiu Jitsu schools that will offer a week's trial classes to see if the gym is going to be the right fit for you. Definitely utilize those free classes to your full advantage, and wait to make a decision until you are sure you will be placed in classes that will maximize your skills and give you some good, strong training.
