Description of service
The lessons included oil paints, brushes and tools, a canvas, and professional instruction and one-on one help. The class was small - about five people - and took place in a local retro ice cream parlor. The lesson lasted about two hours, long enough for the instructor to demonstrate a painting, for use to imitate him, and for him to walk around and offer help. We got to keep the finished canvases.
Review of Service
The instructor was very helpful, offering clear demonstration and one-on-one advice for color mixing and strokes. The atmosphere was very relaxed and people were chatting and having refreshments while painting. However, I was the youngest person there by far - everyone else was probably over 50. There were enough supplies and paint for everyone to have as much as they needed, and smocks were provided to protect clothing. Overall, it was a very enjoyable, relaxing, and relatively clean business.
Tips
This wasn't a business to my knowledge, instead, it was a painter just offering lessons. I learned about it through an ad in my local newspaper. I'm guessing that would be the way it would go, unless you're living in a really large city or a place with a large concentration of artists/art schools. Don't expect to find this stuff in the yellow pages - ask around.
