Description of service

Each class was $35 dollars. Because it was an oil painting class, in order to finish a project, you would have to come back for multiple lessons (which were free). You must use Bob Ross paints and brushes for the classes and those can add up, so while the price for the class isn't much, the supplies can be costly if you have to buy everything at once. There are a lot of different level painting classes for Bob Ross, each with it's own price tag.

Review of Service

I was impressed with the instuctor. He was patient and very knowledgable. He explained the different techniques you can do with each type of brush and gave us a crash course on mixing paints to achieve certain shades. While I am very happy with the way my painting came out, this is not something to get into if you are not patient. Oil paints dry a whole lot slower than acrylics and they cost a whole lot more as well. Depending on where you get the supplies for these classes, you are looking at more than a hundred dollars in paints, brushes and cleaning supplies alone. This also doesn't include the canvas, palette, or easel. I learned quite a bit, and would recommend this type of class to some of my craftier friends. I think that I will stick to acrylic painting though in the future.

Tips

Read up on Bob Ross's techniques before you go to one of these classes. You'll be better off in the long run. I am the type of learner that needs to read it and then be shown before i get it, so this might help you if you're like me. The classes are usually anywhere from and hour to two hours long and teachers have to cram a lot into that time frame. The more you know the better off you'll be. When it comes to buying supplies, try and use coupons. Almost all big name craft stores have weekly ads with coupons in them. If you use that coupon on each big ticket item, you'll save tons. And while bigger tubes of paint cost more up front, they are really more cost effective if you think you'll be doing more oil painting in the future. Again, be patient and open minded, you might be glad you tried something new.
