Description of service
The course I took was about three hours long. It took place in a local coffee shop, and each student was given an easel, set of brushes and knives, an apron, a palette and paints, and a canvas to use for purposes of the lesson. There were only about six people in the course, and it was very informal - the instructor would perform a step on his canvas and let us copy, while walking around and offering advice or additional instruction. When the canvases were finished, we were free to take them home with us.
Review of Service
The instructor was very personable and helpful. The locale, however, was a little strange. It was difficult to get our easels and paints set up in such a way that we could work with everything without accidentally painting the tables or floor, and there never seemed to be quite enough turpentine to clean up. I was also the youngest person there by a good 40 years or so, so conversation was a little limited and awkward.
Tips
For a small group lesson like this, I would say the group and instructor make all the difference - you want it to be something fun as well as educational.
