Good babysitters are hard to find but when you live in a lower cost of living area - it is much easier to find them at a lower price. We pick them up from their house and they come and watch our child in our own home. I make a list of all the important details such as when my daughter needs to go to bed and what she should eat for dinner. The babysitter makes sure that my daughter is fed and happy, plays with her, reads her stories, and then puts her to bed for the evening. She is free to help herself to any food in our house and make herself completely comfortable. We only ask that the tv stay off until our daughter is in bed.

I have been very happy with the service that we have received. It takes a while for my daughter to warm up to strangers so we had our sitter come over many times when we were home so she didn't associate her with us leaving her. We always managed to come home to a cleaner house than we left which was wonderful even though we didn't ask for that to be done. She always gives us a full report of what happened both good and bad. We have recommended her services to other friends and she has been well received and we will use her again and again.

I think the best thing is to ask around to your friends and find out who they use and why. It's important to find someone who is a good fit with your family and tempermant. And I felt it was really helpful to have the sitter become familiar with my child and vice versa ahead of time. I found that the cost of babysitters in my area is really low but I try to be more than generous with her pay so she is willing to come back help us again.
