Description of service
The price covered some informal advice from a criminal defense attorney.
As a defense attorney, I presume he offers the usual research, build case, lobby prosecution/DA, and go to trial if necessary; though I suspect he gets few clients.
Review of Service
I went to a dull party weekend before last and spent some time talking to an criminal defense attorney. Mildly interesting conversation. More interesting for the lawyer, I think, as he decided it merited tracking me down through the hostess and sending me a bill for the conversation. After talking to a few other people I saw at the party, I found out I wasn't the only one he did this to.
He billed me for his time as a lawyer, I figured the least I can do is fax him bill for my time as an investment adviser, which is the work-related thing he asked me about. But I'd better contact my attorney and check on my liability before I do that.
Tips
If a lawyer ever pulls this stunt with you, you know he's a bit of a schmuck. A decent lawyer would simply say a certain topic is off limits for liability reasons. A good businessman would have kept the product sample free and brief. You don't network by tricking people into a business agreement.
