Description of service
The food is always one of the most important aspects of a wedding, so we got suggestions from lots of our friends and met with four caterers before we made our choice. We had to bump up our budget a little, but we ended up paying $25 per plate for the dinner and $400 for three different types of hors d'oeuvres during the time between the ceremony and reception. The dinner included a choice of filet, chicken or vegetarian pasta, and all tables had bread, salad, vegetables, potatoes, and mints, along with beverages such as water, tea, and coffee.
Review of Service
The caterer that we selected handles at least one wedding every weekend, so they are always busy and didn't need our business, but they treated us like we were their only customer. The food was also excellent and both of us and all of the guests were very satisfied with the menu and the result. While deciding on the menu, the caterer met us twice and we tasted a variety of options before making our selections for our event. He really helped us manage the costs by making valuable suggestions and showing us how to stay close to our budget but still deliver restaurant-quality meals. It was a great idea to serve some light food to the guests while we were taking pictures and changing our clothes, and his other thoughts on the menu were also right on point. The price was fair and the service was fine, everything was presented and tasted just as we expected.
Tips
The menu is one area that you carefully budget but also leave room to increase because it is really important and you want the food to be great and not ruin a special event. Definitely talk to a few caterers and taste their food before making a decision; their personality matters too, so consider that in your choice.
