Description of service
Marriage counseling with both people together for one hour. Eighty dollars per session is the cost without insurance. I'm not sure what the out of pocket costs would be if you used insurance.
Review of Service
My husband and started having some problems, so we decided to see a marriage counsler. We found a local center with a more holistic approach to mental well being, and decided that would be the way we'd like to go about it. We have found a wonderful, non-biased, kind, sweet funny therapist who we adore. The sessions sometimes run a little longer, and he never charges more for it. He listens without giving his opinion, and for the most part lets us work out our problems on our own, mostly being our mediator and stepping in when he feels someone is being dishonest, or he can see that we're in need of some outside advice. I have never felt that he is condescending, or that he has a holier than thou attitude. The best part about the sessions is that we always communicate so much better outside of the counselers office afterwards.
Tips
The most important thing when picking someone to help you is to make sure you are 100% comfortable with them. If there is anything about your therapist that you're not okay with, it will really prevent you from having a useful session. If you don't go into it believing it will be of help to you, or if you go in with a self destructive attitude, you may as well save your money and not go at all. I think therapy is great for so many different people, but you have to be open to it. Call around, get reccomendations from friends and doctors, make sure you really check out who you're going to see. And don't feel trapped. If after the first session, or any session for that matter you don't like the person offering you their help, find someone else. It really is most important to find someone you like and trust.
