Description of service
The fee paid covered one 50-minute couples therapy session with a MS, which is a master's of science in counseling. The fee was entirely for services provided during that time. There were no taxes or gratuities.
Review of Service
I received very good quality service. The therapist was good at mediating between myself and my husband. She listened well and responded appropriately. The session was a good start to helping us solve our problem. She had concrete ideas for us to improve our relationship. The only drawback is that one session is probably not enough for most people, so this service requires repeated visits.
Tips
Definitely take advantage of any health insurance benefits that you or your partner have. This can dramatically lower the cost of couples therapy. If you don't have insurance, don't be afraid to ask for a sliding scale based on your income. I would suggest asking friends and family for recommendations. It took more than one try for us to find someone we felt comfortable working with. There are many types of therapists and their credentials can range from a PHD on down. Don't overpay by choosing a therapist with credentials far above your need. In many cases, a Psychiatrist or Psychologist will be more than you need.
