the Cost of Local Movers

I paid to have furniture from a bedroom, dining room and other miscellaneous furniture moved 10 miles. The items being moved included a full dining room set with table, 6 chairs and china cabinet, a bed frame, mattress, 2 dressers (1 with large mirror) and 2 night stands, living room chairs, television, stereo equipment, lamps and other small items. I moved all my smaller items myself.

The movers arrived at their scheduled time. There were 2 men who worked together very well. It took them approximately 90 minutes to load the truck. They were very organized and careful. They were moving things from a one floor ranch house, through the kitchen and garage and into their truck. They used ample padding and I felt confident that all my items were safe. When everything was loaded they followed me in my car to an apartment complex 10 miles away. The furniture was moved into a first-floor apartment and moved in through the patio door which made their job much easier. They brought items in and I told them where to put them. I was worried that they might scratch or nick the freshly painted walls but they were very careful, especially when moving the bedroom furniture down the narrow hallway. There were several pieces of furniture(dining room china cabinet and bedroom dresser) that were in two pieces and they assembled them for me as well as putting the dining room table together. They made sure before they left that every piece of furniture was where I wanted it and they did a visual inspection to make sure that no damage had been done inside the apartment. This was the first time I had anything moved by professionals and I was very happy.

Also get a few estimates. I didn't find anyone who charged less when I made my calls. Plan at least 4-6 weeks ahead of time. Also, it was easier to schedule the move for a weekday than for a weekend. Make sure you watch carefully when your personal possessions are being moved to make sure nothing is damaged. Movers will offer you boxes if you can't find them on your own. I moved all my kitchen accessories, books, china etc. myself because of the short distance. This saved me money.
