Description of service
Neutering of a male basset hound at approximately 10-12 weeks of age, done at veterinary clinic in Olathe, KS. Procedure was 'outpatient' in that the dog was in and out the same day.
I brought my dog in early in the morning to have his neutering done, assuming he would need to be there all day if not overnight. However, I received a call around lunchtime telling me the operation was successful and he was sleeping, ready to be picked up whenever I was.
I paid around $75 for this service, which I think is a very fair price. I was fortunate in that I received a discount on the neutering because I had previously purchased a 'puppy package' with the same veterinarian, which was essentially a bundle of all the necessary puppy shots for a discounted price.
Review of Service
I was very impressed with this service, not only in the cost but also in how quickly and professionally it was done.
The vet also called later that night after the dog had been home a while to make sure he was doing okay and not getting sick. They sent me home with a little packet of information on what to do and what to look for to make sure the dog was doing okay after his surgery. Being that this was my first puppy, I really appreciated this little gesture, because I was pretty clueless!
Tips
If you have a puppy, I would highly recommend trying to find a vet that has similar packages; it will save you a lot of money in the long run, especially when they also offer savings on things like the neuter/spay.
Also, most vets will try to tack on extra 'services' they can provide during the neuter surgery such as tooth cleaning. I didn't opt to do any of these, and really I don't think its entirely necessary.
