Description of service
Needed oil changed before taking a road trip on my motorcyle. Also needed to have the motorcycle inspected as is required by the state of Texas in order to receive a valid inspection sticker.
Review of Service
Mechanics were friendly and very familiar with motorcycles. As is typical of mechanics paid by the job, they tried to sell me on additional needs of the bike. However, they were honest in their approach, suggesting that the added items would make the bike more attractive but were not necessary to the safe functioning of the bike.
One concern I had was that despite specifically stating that I only wanted the oil changed and the inspection complete, they took upon themselves to check my tires, and replace a cracked relector - which would have passed inspection as it was. I thought I was overcharged or being charged for services I hadn't requested, given all I had asked for was to have the oil changed and an inspections completed.
Tips
Before you permit anyone to service any vehicle, have a work order in writing stating exactly what you are requesting so that the mecahnic doesn't try to add aditional stuff. The work order prevents them from declairing a misunderstanding, and will ultimately save you money. Also, lets say you had your breaks worked on, and the mechanic said he fixed them. The you get into an accident because of failed breaks, the work order, and the receipt will prove to be forms of protection for you from potenital legal action.
