Description of service
One hour of standard talk-therapy from an LCPC (licensed clinical professional counselor) in Portland. This is basically the type of therapy you're familiar with on TV shows like the Sopranos, Monk, etc.
Review of Service
My therapist seems to charge a pretty average price for the Portland area. Therapy usually involves talking about my life, experiences, aspirations, etc. The sessions take place in an office suite that's used by a few other therapists. Personally I prefer that over a therapist who works out of their own home. I've been to therapists like that, and sometimes it feels like you're invading their space. I find visits to this therapist relaxing and productive.
Tips
When you're looking over the prices of therapists, don't just consider dollar number. One big thing is credentials. Do you want an LCPC, LCSW, PhD, or an MD? In my experience, an MD or psychiatrist will usually be the most expensive. The two psychiatrists I've had were absolutely lousy therapists, and I personally won't go to a psychiatrist for therapy anymore. While it's important for a therapist to be well trained, I've found your personal rapport with them is even more so. Think about where you'll be going for your therapy appointments. Is it in a part of town that is easy for you to get to? Also think about insurance coverage. You might find a therapist who seems absolutely perfect, but doesn't take your plan. They can't help you if you can't afford to pay them, so keep that in mind, even though it's hard to sometimes. If you found one you really like and can't afford, try asking them if they are able to lower their rates. In that field it is very common to lower rates for patients with money problems.
