Description of service
Seeing a therapist or counselor through a training school or non-profit is a way to access therapy for much less than the usual cost, even without insurance.
I see a therapist once a week for an hour each time. She uses a wide range of therapeutic techniques and is a masters student at a near by university.
She cannot prescribe drugs but has oversight from a doctor who can in the event that medication was recommended.
Review of Service
I really enjoy my therapy sessions, I've found them to be very beneficial for working through some depression and anxiety issues. I don't believe that seeing a student compromises the quality of the services in anyway. I feel that my needs are the priority of the sessions and that her education benefits as well by seeing a wide range of people in her practicum.
Tips
Finding a therapist that is the right match is the most important part of entering therapy. A counselor who might be perfect for one person might be entirely wrong for another. Ask questions in advance when you call and be ready for the first session to be at least partly "get to know you" time. Talk to friends in your area who see counselors for recommendations.
