the Price of Individual Counseling

My counselor charges $125 per hour and we meet at least every other week and sometimes every week at his office based on my decision if it is necessary to meet. During the hour we will talk about any issues that I want to discuss and he will sometimes provide guidance and sometimes just listen or ask questions to better understand the situation.

I tried two other counselors before I found someone that I was completely comfortable with and he has helped me to work through some important times in my life and issues that have come up along the way. He has moved our conversations forward at the right pace for me and let me get to the emotional places that I needed to find. His office setting is a comfortable environment for me and it is easy to talk from his sofa or the chair that is available. The counselor is reliable and has never needed to cancel any session without notice to me. His hourly rate is a little higher than the others that I visited, but it is worth the difference for better results.

Selecting a counselor should be about personality first and cost should be a very low factor in making the decision. You need to feel completely comfortable with the person so that you can open up and feel safe talking about every aspect of your life. There are some low-cost options, but you should consider the quality before going with lowest price. Also be sure to check if your insurance covers all or part of the counseling; many policies will help with the cost if you notify them, but many people are afraid to let the insurance company know they are talking to a counselor.
