Description of service
I got permanent hair straightening. NOTE: I paid $35 for basic temporary hair straightening for regular-length hair (below the ears but above the shoulders once straightened). Price goes up with the length of hair. Also, "permanent" hair straightening, i.e., the hair is straightened with a chemical relaxer, will usually cost more than "temporary" hair straightening (the hair is "blown out" and straightened with a straightening comb or hot irons).
Review of Service
Most places will go ahead and use straightening combs/hot irons to completely straighten the hair after it has been chemical relaxed. WATER is the enemy once the hair is straightened - if you don't take something with you to cover your hair on your way out, and it's raining - watch out!
Tips
Many beauty schools/institutes of beauty will do hair straightening/relaxing for a lower price, but be sure if a student is doing your hair, that s/he is being supervised by a lead person or instructor. I usually insist on additional conditioning once my hair has been relaxed, and I use an olive oil spray (available at beauty supply stores) to keep my hair moisturized. To protect the hair shaft as much as possible, DON'T wash your hair before your straightening appointment. That way, the natural oils in your scalp will offer some protection from the chemicals. (That's the same thinking behind not washing your hair on the same day that you have it colored, by the way!)
