We preemptively replaced the hot water heater for our condo building given that the old one seemed like it was on its way out. The company replaced the water heater with a new seventy five gallon tank and included a twelve year warranty. The price included both the installation work, necessary permits, and haul away of the old tank.

Overall, we were very happy with the service. Not only did they install the new tank within a matter of days, they did a great job and were in and out quickly. With installing the new tank, draining the system, cleaning up, etc., it took less than two hours. Other companies had quoted us prices that were more than two times what we paid. Further, one local company gave us a labor quote of seven plus hours, which was clearly price gauging. The heater has been working great since the install and we have had no problems with hot water - even on the top floor units. Further, there are no leaks or other issues.

Call around for the best price. While it may be nice to support the local plumbing company, beware that you do not get screwed. Try calling your local utility or big box retailer, for example, to get the best price. Further, if you live in the city, you often get "city prices" from the local guys but the flat normal rate from big companies.
