Description of service
My stylist runs her own business out of her home. She's been doing hair for over 20 years. She does it all herself, no employees, no overhead, for this reason, her prices rarely fluctuate. I have a medium length, layered hairstyle. For a wash, highlights (pulling my hair through a cap), and a cut, she charges $50. To break it down better, a wash and hair cut is $15 for women and $10 for men. Full highlights cost $35, partial highlights $17. These prices also include styling after the blow dry. I typically tip my hairdresser $5. I know that may sound like a lot, but she always squeezes me in when I call to schedule. I normally don't schedule at the shop, I usually wait until I can't stand my hair anymore, then call and pray that she can get me in.
Review of Service
I've been going to the same hairdresser for 15 years. She is very cautious when cutting my hair. She has never given me a hack job. I feel confident that she knows what I like and I never leave disappointed. Also, I can purchase many of the products she uses at a discount. My hair always looks and feels so healthy when I leave there. Her highlights are always so natural looking. The best part, she's wonderful at scheduling. Even though she has many clients and is always busy, I've never had to be at her shop for more than 90 minutes. I know some people who sit at their beauticians for over 3 hours for basic services.
Tips
A good hairdresser will know what style suits your face structure and will be capable of cutting your hair in the newest styles. I would not recommend most walk-in shops. The cost may be a little less and it saves you the trouble of waiting for an appointment, but typically the results are less than impressive. I love getting gift certificates for birthdays and holidays. It's nice to go and get yourself prettied up without having to pay out of your own pocket.
