Description of service
I needed to hire a temporary cashier for my store while I had several employees out sick. I needed also to pay for a police check and for new keys to be cut and so on.
I kept the tasks simple as there would not be much time to train the person; I had them learn the general layout of the store, but mainly kept their reponsibilities to working the register and so on.
Review of Service
The employee I had was very good.
I think what makes the difference in a temporary employee is the willingness to learn, their ability to learn quickly and blend in with other employees so that everything can continue smoothly- keep business going as usual.
One thing that really helped, I think, is keeping the new tasks to a minimum and not putting anything on their plate that requires remembering detailed knowledge of the store- that takes time to learn and it isn't worth your time to do that if it isn't necessary.
Tips
Personality, punctuality mean the most. Sometimes all you need is an extra body to act as a runner. No matter how short a period of time that person may be there, they will have a huge impact on your work environment and your other staff.
