Description of service
We got a rental car for a weekend (three days) for $44 as an add-on to a travel package.
We were supposed to get a compact car (the cheapest they had) and when we checked in, they asked if we wanted to upgrade to an SUV for a slightly higher price. We said no. The customer rep then asked if we wanted a free upgrade to a fancy convertible. We made sure that he had really said free, and agreed in a hurry!
Review of Service
It was really easy to make the reservation on the travel website. Checking in and getting the car was also really easy, and we were really excited about the free upgrade to the fancy convertible!
There were no hidden fees at all, just the $44 total for the weekend. We had to fill the car up with gas, of course, and returning it was really easy. There was someone waiting for us and they just noted the mileage and took the keys.
Tips
We got lucky with the convertible - I have no idea why we got the free upgrade, but that was great! Otherwise, I would say to go for the cheapest car - usually the compact or subcompact car. A convertible might be fun to drive around, especially if you're visiting somewhere sunny, but a larger car is just a pain to drive and park when you're somewhere unfamiliar.
Making rental car reservations as part of a bigger travel plan saved us a lot of money. Do this whenever possible.
