Description of service
This was the price to purchase and install a cut pile carpet in a 255 square foot room. This price included the carpeting itself, heavy duty padding, the actual installation, and any other materials required. It also included the labor involved with carpeting a stairway. There were 11 steps and a landing that required carpeting. The room itself was $1000, and it was $155 for the steps. I paid an extra $100 for heavy duty padding. My installer did all of the measuring to determine exactly what we needed to order. The carpeting came in a large roll, which the installer ordered, received, and delivered to my house. He was responsible for making the cuts to fit the room properly.
When I placed my order, he explained all of the different types of carpet I could choose from and helped me to select a carpet based on how the room was to be used, how much traffic the room would endure, and the fact that I have a dog that could pull on certain types of carpet fibers with his nails. He also explained the three different thicknesses of carpeting and the advantages of going with a thicker carpet. He explained the different thicknesses of padding, too. He brought samples of everything right to my home, so I could look at various colors in the actual room, and I was able to shop in the comfort of my own home.
Review of Service
I was absolutely amazed at how this man sized up my room and knew exactly what size roll of carpet to order. There was hardly any waste. He did the installation in two separate visits. First he did the room, then he came back the next day to do the stairs. Another thing that amazed me was how good it looks where he had to cut the carpet and place two pieces next to each other. I look around my room and cannot tell you where the cuts are. It is totally seamless.
Incidentally, it was only about a week from the time I placed my order, to the time it was installed.
Tips
If you are buying carpeting for a high traffic area, consider going with a medium or thick carpet. The thinner grades of carpet are cheaper, but wear easily. Also ask for heavy duty padding. Although it is a little more expensive than the standard padding that comes free with installation, the thicker padding is worth every penny. It makes the carpet far more comfortable to walk on, and also adds to the life of the carpet by adding extra thickness. For my room, the extra thick padding was only $100 extra.
