Description of service
I got acupuncture for my shoulder, neck, and back pain, with the acupuncture needles being hooked up to electrodes to stimulate them. The acupuncture part was $50.
I was also given some herbs. The herbs (I'm not sure what they were) had already been brewed and then frozen. I had four large paper cups full of them for $20.
Review of Service
The acupuncture was great. The electrical stimulation seemed to really make a difference in loosening up my muscles. I have had acupuncture before and it helps somewhat with muscle tension, but the electric stimulation added something.
At first it was kind of scary because I wasn't sure what the acupuncturist was doing (he didn't speak very much English) and the needles just started twitching and jumping in my back, which was a little alarming.
After I stopped feeling so much like a dissected frog (you know how their legs twitch when they're hooked up to an electrical source), I realized that it was actually really relaxing and doing much more for me than normal acupuncture.
Some of the other aspects were not that great though. The acupuncturist had me under a heat lamp which made me WAY too hot and he didn't come in to check on me so it stayed on. also, he had me lying in a pretty uncomfortable position.
The herbs were awful. I wasn't expecting them to taste good but I honestly could not stomach even the tiniest taste. It looked, smelled, and tasted like tires that were melted down and mixed with motor oil. My boyfriend made fun of me for not being able to drink it and then he tried it and gagged!
Tips
Don't pay extra for herbs you can't stomach - learn from me.
Aside from that, I think if you were new to acupuncture, you might want to start without the electrical stimulation. It might seem less scary that way.
