Description of service
I go to a classically trained (trained in China with followup education here in the united states) acupuncturist on a regular basis for pain and to improve chi flow. My acupuncturist will usually talk with me for a few minutes before we start to determine if we will continue with the planned course of treatemnt or if something new is happening discuss what adjustments to the planned treatment that should be made. My acupuncturist will then do a very light "laying on of hands" - not a massage but a testing of chi and muscle tightness. She then will insert the needles where she thinks is best depending on the focus of the treatment.
Review of Service
I always feel that my acupuncturist really takes the time to talk with me. I almost never get the feeling of being pushed in and out of the office. I feel like we always have an ongoing treatment program that is tailored specifically for me.
Tips
I would try to read up on acupuncture a little bit before your first appointment to understand the theory behind it. You do not have to become an expert but you will bet much more out of the experience by being able to ask more informed questions and giving your acupuncturist more information she can use in your treatment.
