Description of service
I paid $100 with no additional tip, tax or fees. The acupuncture treatment lasted approximately 50 minutes, although it is technically considered an "hour" visit.
Review of Service
Having already had my initial acupuncture visit long ago, this visit was a standard length treatment. The acupuncturist asked routine questions-- how is life, how is your health, any interesting dreams since your last visit. He had me lie down and he took my pulses, three spots on each wrist, about a 5 minute process. He then performed "moxibustion" on my ankles. This is the burning of little cones made of mugwart to draw out impurities from acupuncture points on and near my ankles.
The acupuncturist placed needles in the specific acupuncture points that I routinely have trouble with, all along my lower legs and ankles. He twists the needles in specific points where the energy is stagnant and requires stimulation. Once that adjustment is complete, he leaves the room and allows me to lie there and let the needles do their work.
About 15 minutes later he returns, removes the needles, and does the entire procedure all over again, but on several points along side of my spine. I stay seated upright for 15 minutes or so with the needles pulsating in my back. He returns periodically to look at the needles to examine whether the treatment is complete. When he considers the work "done" the acupuncturist removes the needles, thus ending the treatment.
Tips
The acupuncturist will require at least one and half hours for the initial treatment. For subsequent treatments, budget for an hour although they will most likely end at 50 minutes. One treatment per week is an ideal schedule. The acupuncture process, in my experience, took quite a long time to begin taking effect. But once it did, it made a dramatic improvement upon my health. Because it takes so long to feel the effects, I would only embark on this journey with an acupuncturist has proven to be effective. I recommend seeking out one who comes highly recommended by someone whose opinion you trust.
Many people feel apprehensive about the needles. I can honestly say the needles themselves are so fine that you can barely feel them inserted into the skin. However, when inserted into a particularly congested or disordered acupuncture point, the point itself can feel very tender. But this is a good thing, it is the adjustment taking place. The longer you get treatment and the better your physical condition, the less tender your points will be.
