Description of service
Our family wanted to adopt a dog and used the internet to locate a nearby shelter and to view online the available dogs. We found a dog that we were interested in and called the shelter to ask some questions and we then proceeded to fill out an application and submit it to the shelter for review. This was a small shelter and we visited it and met the dog and decided to adopt her. The cost for the adoption included the tags, a temporary leash, a full packet describing her training history and medical condition, and a term of pet insurance.
Review of Service
Of course we love the dog, but the way we were treated by the shelter made quite a bit of difference in how we felt about the process. The shelter employees cared very much about the animals and wanted to make sure we were a good fit for the dog. The screening was appropriate and they were honest about the qualities of the dog and her prior history. She was housebroken and somewhat trained when we adopted her and the shelter seemed to really appreciate that we were adopting the dog. The facilities were crowded but clean and the animals seemed well cared for. The price of the adoption was reasonable and the pet insurance was an extra bonus that made us feel better.
Tips
The most important thing is to make sure that you adopt the right pet for you and your family and your living space. The adoption fee is too small of an amount to worry about if you find the right animal, and the cost of caring for a pet in the future far exceeds the minimal adoption cost. Also be sure to get any documents relating to the animal before you leave the facility because they will often discard the records after the adoption is complete.
