Description of service
We adopted a dog from the shelter and he was housebroken but it did not seem that he had ever been trained with basic commands. We paid $180 for a class that lasted for five 1-hour sessions and one 2-hour final session over six consecutive weeks. There were seven other dogs in the class and it covered sit, stay, roll over, heel, and some other regular instructions.
Review of Service
The service was provided by a private trainer with a warehouse for the location, and it went very well from the first session. The trainer showed us how to establish being the leader with the dog and then over the weeks showed us new commands that we practiced in between sessions. Our dog seemed to really enjoy the structure and the learning aspects of the class, and he caught on very quickly to the way he should behave and follow directions. We were very happy with the training and six weeks was just the right amount of time for a beginning class. We are thinking about going back for the intermediate training but not yet. The dogs all learned to respect their owners and by the end they all listened better and our dog learned how to walk calmly on the leash and behave better.
Tips
You definitely have to practice many times the commands so that your dog understands that you are serious. You should have patience with your dog, but also be firm and be sure that he knows you are in charge and that you are telling him to do something and not just asking.
